  • Mariner 100HP 2 stroke

I'm pulling my hair out. Anyone familiar with this?
Timing is dead on, carbs rebuilt and VERY simple, floats dead on, carbs synchronized with flow gauge (10.5), idle screw and armature at maximum turn down, new carbs, new reed valves, feller gauged in at flush to less then .020", new plugs, t-stat.

holds a 1250 idle, after 10 minutes of running, slowly rises it's idle to 1350 and then farts/coughs, then idle cycles 900-1350 farting at top idle then dropping. I have gotten to the point of 2nd guessing myself.
Ohm'd coils, good. Ohm'd trigger good. Ohm'd Stator, I think it's good. Range on stator should be 6000-7000 Ohms, I got .704K on my DMM. Am I reading this right? Like I said, 2nd guessing myself. Any clues or hints?
sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:
A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.

2 stroke huh?? Sounds like its going lean, sucking air... How do the plugs look??? Any sign of a lean condition?? A 2 stroke engine draws air/fuel into the crankcase then forces it through transfer ports up to the combustion area... If the crank seals or the seals (usually just goo) where the crankcase halves join are leaking air it CAN cause a lean condition and raise idle. If you can spray some ether or carb-cleaner around these areas, with engine running, you might find a leak...
I spent MANY years working on 2 strokes and have seen that problem crop up many times.... On really extreme cases I've had to remove the block and seal up EVERYTHING and then pressurize the crankcase and look for leaks that way... Even to the extent of submerging it in water and looking for bubbles.... A lot of work on an outboard...
    Just a thought...
    Hope this helps,,,,
    Tom...

it never dawned on me that the damn thing breathes through it's crankcase, hell i looked down her throat and remarked to my techs about the rod bearings! u'd think it would have hit me. Thanks, i'm going to go carb clean soak her.

Sounds like its flooding out, or the carbs aren't keeping up with fuel consumption into the float area, if you got a video it's a bit easier to help, and there is 3 different designed 2 strokes out there

        Its runs!!!>>>Aint No 60* Sound Like Mehttp://youtu.be/YKEmNwa141U
