  • Corporations have crossed the line!

A terrible product made by a company called Senomyx. It is called Flavor Enhancer HEK 293.

HEK stands for Human Embryonic Kidney......that's right......aborted fetuses are being used to flavor our foods.

Dare I post some products using this flavor additive?

Pepsi, Nestle Chocolate Milk, Starbucks Iced Coffees, Kraft Salad Dressings.

I'm freaking stunned.....I can't believe we are consuming aborted children.

If anyone wants to say something about it: I am never using any Nestle, Pepsi, Kraft or Starbucks products ever again.

Since they are not actually ingredients but rather 'enhancers' they are not required to be listed in a package's ingredients except as 'artificial flavors' ... [And] because very small amounts of the additives are used ... Senomyx's chemicals have not undergone the FDA's usual safety approval process for food additives." Weston A. Price Foundation

You're right, but it is pretty disgusting. And I thought Shellac Beetles in Skittles Candy Shells was bad.

How is something naturally made (like a human...) artificial? That is just downright disturbing, and I agree, no more of those products in my house...

Today I saw my son eating a Nestle Crunch. I said nothing, just sighed and made a mental note. My Wife was disgusted as well.

This one of these things that can't be unlearned.... but I'd rather know and avoid the crap.

And it doesn't end there, we all know this. As there are the things we know, the things we know we don't know....and the things we don't know we don't know. If we could live a healthy life on 2-3 types of all natural food, I'd consider it. So what if I give up eating for pleasure, eating for survival is healthier, cheaper and apparently safer.

If you ever want an eye opening, watch movies like Super Size Me, Food Inc., or Forks Over Knives. Most will make you rethink just about everything you eat, as well as how you live your life in general. In order, I'd recommend Food Inc., then Forks Over Knives, and finally Super Size Me. I know there are a few more out there, but can't think of the names right now...

Food Inc is on my instant queue on Netflix. I started watching it one night and got as far as the chicken farms and the baby chicks, which was disturbing in itself. I mean, I know chickens are meant to be food, but the way they raise them along with the conditions and how they treat them just seems a bit inhumane. My wife made me turn it off at that point since she said "If I watch that movie, I won't want to eat anything anymore."

I've got another one in queue about bottled water. I think it was called Tapped. It was a pretty good one, and an eye opener for sure. I've also got another one that breaks down what everything on the supper table now a days is made of and how it has an effect on you, but I forgot what it's called right now. I do plan on finishing Food Inc and watching Super Size me and Forks Over Knives, though. Thanks for those suggestions, Brad.

So I mentioned this to my wife tonight. She thought I was lying, so she started to do some research. Turns out it NOT actually in the product, but used in testing of the product.

Pepsi is funding the research and development – and paying royalties to Senomyx which uses HEK-293 (human embryonic kidney cells) to produce flavor enhancers for Pepsi beverages.

Senomyx boasts they have over 800,000 unique flavors for foods. The human tongue recognizes only 5 (salty, savory, sweet, sour and bitter). But cells expressing certain proteins produce a chemical signal when flavors are introduced, which determines if it’s the proper flavor. The aborted fetal cells are not in the product itself.

“There are many options PepsiCo could be using instead of aborted fetal cells” noted Debi Vinnedge, President of Children of God for Life, the group spearheading the boycott.

The revelation — a potential public relations nightmare — motivated Campbell Soup to sever all relations with Senomyx.

However, PepsiCo continues their business relationship despite the abortion connection. They drew pubic ire earlier this year when they responded that “our collaboration with Senomyx is strictly limited to creating lower-calorie, great-tasting beverages for consumers.”

When pressed further, PepsiCo attempted to pacify angry consumers with a form letter response insinuating they had been accused of conducting aborted fetal tissue research. Their duplicity again drew public outrage.

Bradley Mattes, executive director of Life Issues Institute, said, “While aborted fetal cells aren’t actually in the product itself, the close relationship is enough to repulse most consumers. To our knowledge, this is the first time a food product has been publicly associated with abortion.

Basically, this is right up there with stem cell research, but as mentioned in the last sentence of the quote, its the first time it has been linked to a food product, which basically brings it closer to home for most people.

Well, thats a little better but still morally wrong in my book. I should have researched a little more.....oh well.

I wish I was a fly on the wall for that conversation, lol.

Yeah, it was a little dubious. I was wondering how many fetus kidneys it took to make a a few million candy bars.

more like how many it would take to make the billions of gallons of pepsi.
