Any tips or suggestions on the best way to remove the engine from a fourth generation Camaro? I've heard it is easier to come out the bottom, but others have disagreed.
I'll probably be pulling this engine in the middle of a muddy field in the rain, so I'd probably rather not put the whole thing up on jack stands if I can help it.
Part 1: Yes, it will come out of the top...a major bitch!
Part 2: It comes out easy from under the car. Car has to be 3 feet off the ground. Major bitch in a muddy field.
Part 3: Easy way..Remove heads, and all front components down to the timing chain. Short block comes out fairly easy out the hood. Time consuming.
If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.

A couple follow-up questions; Easier to pull the engine with the tranny attached or without? Second question - easier to pull an intact engine out the front if I pull off the front bumper, and all the other stuff on the front? Thanks!

Without, it makes the engine shorter and weigh less with the tranny still in the car. But then you have to get under the car to disconnect the two, and support the tranny so it doesn't fall out once disconnected from the engine.

I just cut the core support clearing the front of the engine, pulled the hood, undid the torque arm, motor mounts, etc, and pulled it out the top while also pulling it backwards to get it out of the car.
The car was trashed, so it didnt really matter if I destroyed it.
If destroying the car isnt an option consider the above posts ^
