I'd love to help your buddy out but I hate it when bands pull this crap. They do this to get dozens of ideas and steal them all to use on future albums.

Any of you guys ever hear about he Mars Music fiasco in LA? This is my best account of what happened as told by many people that were there.

Fred Durst put the word out that he was looking for a new guitarist. It was advertised all over, even here in Ohio. Hundreds of young guitarists lined up outside the Mars Music overnight, just waiting to get a chance to audition in front of Fred. Food and drinks were promised, but you had to sign a paper that everything you played was original and it all became the property of Fred. Everything was recorded and if I remember right it may have been video taped.

The auditions started at 9 AM and continued late into the afternoon/evening. People outside were passing out from the heat, while inside Fred collected enough material and stopped the auditions. With hundreds of people still waiting in the LA sun, the employees told the crowd the auditions were over. Things got heated and at some point the employees put something like 4 pizzas outside... for something like 200 people still there.

It's my guess that Limp Bizkit and Mars recieved so much flack from that incident that Linkin Park decided to try an online contest this time.

Mars Music is now Sam Ash Music here. Not sure if they are everywhere or not.
