So at the moment I own a 2002 Pontiac Grand AM that has been my project car pretty much since the day I bought it. My plans for this car are to drop in my built 3400 and turbo it but I have been having some problems recently deciding on the direction I am going with this project.

It all started a few days ago when I happend to come across a 93 Camaro with trans but no engine. The car seems to be in pretty decent shape inside and out and the price just happens to be right for me.

I do really want to just finish the Grand Am but with the plans I have for it I will also be needing to invest in a new DD.

So my question for you fellow 60*v6 members is should I buy the Camaro and throw my built 3400 into that and turn that into my project car (I have two 3400's so the GA would be ready for daily driving right away). Or should I just continue with the Grand Am and try finding another daily driver?

I really like the camaro and a rwd car would be fun but I just can't make up my mind.

    Any comments/criticism is appreciated.

It will be a little more work to get the 3400 to fit/bolt up in the RWD application, but you will have TRACTION. 93 means OBD1 7730 swap w/ TGP code and go with either trans in there I believe.

Several members have rwd projects now that have had fwd beasts before. Plus with RWD you wont have to worry about your tiny 4t45e auto exploding too...

Was the camaro a v6 or v8 car?

My 3 cents are to go with whichever you like best or know more about.

The camaro has a ton of aftermarket support, however, I know very little if any about the Grand AM.

Also think of the time/labor/cost involved and the pros and cons of each which may help you out a bit.

      Late.
      I need a bigger engine!

My thoughts is eventually the engine is going to get so powerful using boost that traction is going to be a majority of your problem. The Camaro solves a good portion of that problem. But in reality, the GA is your baby too and you should do what you feel makes you the happiest, not what we would like to see.

How many built GA's do you see? Now, how many Camaros do you see? The easy answer, of course, is to build both of them. That way you won't be wondering what project to do next . . . . .

That's the reason I went the direction I did. Sure, TONS of people do Mustangs. TONS of people do GM engines in Mustangs. But just how many people do GM V6s in Mustangs? I must say, I am up there on the unique scale of things...

I'm quite Jaded along these lines since I own two (Mine is a 1993 Z-28...and My Son's 1994 3.4L V-6) 4th Gen F-Bodies...and without really knowing much about any other of the GM car lines ...I can think of two reasons why you should stop thinking about buying that 1993 Chevrolet Camaro...regardless of its condition (unless someone was murdered in it or its been lit on fire...) and just GET IT! Here are the reasons why...

The last and arguably best generation of Camaros and Firebirds included a re-design that places the engine almost in the center of the car... that...coupled with its wide stance and power rack and pinion steering quite simply make it the most fantastic car to drive. Period. Trust me. At 61 ...you can bet your Ass that I have owned or driven more than my fair share of performance vehicles...and that includes buying four brand new Camaros and getting a Used Ragtop, too! In addition... I can keep my balanced opinion here about driving Ford Mustangs... in fact at one time... I owned and drove three Mustangs... all at the same time : A 1964.5, A 1967 (I built a Sweeeet 302 CID Engine for that car) and a six cylinder 1968 (non-fastback)...So you can believe me when I say that The Camaro is more fun to own and drive than ANY mortal man deserves! As for help in re-building it? Just Google "Camaro F-Body Forum" and you will get the idea of how much support is out there...and ALWAYS will be! You can do the same thing on eBay...looking for parts and upgrades. ..and you will always find what you need there and at junk yards, to boot! But listen... my intrepid friend... it is how this car DRIVES in any and all conditions that beats anything else you can imagine... I never tire of driving mine...and its classic looks will never go out of style... One last thing... The Camaros and Pontiacs are identical mechanically and engine wise 'neath their skins, so many of their parts are interchangeable...with the exception of the Pontiac having a dual exhaust that bumped its V-8 about 15-30 horsepower...and the K-Frame or K-Members in these cars are different for the V-8s vs. the V-6 flavored engines... but even those components are easlily found and exchanged!

I agree it would be very unique having a fast grand am but it would also be unique to have a full 3400 swapped camaro.

From the way it looks now I might be going to see the car this weekend.
