  • Trunk Rattle from Bass

now i know alot of you are going to say sound deadening... dynamat or whatever brand may be. however i was just going to have the inside of my trunk sprayed with a thick layer of truck bed liner, then ill think about some sound mat. but... most of my rattle is comming from the front edges of my trunk, my spoiler, my license plate (no screws on a z34 plate -was going to just silicone it down) tail lights and the little panel between the tail lights and the bumper. if i drive with my bass on in the rain i can actually develop a (used to be white) but now pink kind of dusty dirty build up. that was the clear, and now the red paint being worn off from under the tail light edges. (i figure this could stop if i loosen the tail lights all of them at once and raise them up as far as i can. but what about the spoiler, and any other ideas on the rest of it?

im pushing 650W bridged, to two 12" 400W RMS - 800W Pioneer IMPPs. in a BASSWORX box that gpes from the inside of either hinge to the other, and from the front lip of my trunk lid to the back seat almost. its HUGE. the bass is bad enough to make you loose your breath and make your heart skip beats. its NUTS for the setup im running. my mirrors go off setting in about 2 beats of bass and everything from the headlights to the muffler tips are shaking. hahaha but the worst and all i care about so far is the ass end. i get too many laughs and need to fix it. any ideas are great please!!!

you can hear the music pretty damn good. i have all the surrounds on a high powered crossover so they arent getting much to any bass at all, without the subs i can make your ears bleed. lol

some like to go fast, hey... when traffic is slammed like a parking lot the next best thing is my bass. its my massage when i go home from work, and the shake i need in the morning to wake up!!

as for pioneers, it depends on what you buy, what you put them in, and what you power them with, they are pretty picky subs. but the IMPP lineup is killer! they actually (i dont know if any of you read it or not) they blew my trunk lid right open ripping the latch off. i had to use 1/2" bolts to fix the shit!!

ahhh alberta, the only place where you can legally ride with no front tag.

Lucky on the front plate business.

Looks like you found the right box for the pioneers. I did see that thread. That's impressive. Lots of surface area though with that big truck lid, lots of force.

yeah i hear ya, i was thinking foam tape along the line where the trunklid seals... that should help make the weather stripping seal better. is there a place where a guy could pick up a roll of weather stripping and just re-do it with newer or thicker stuff? im having the inside of the lid sprayed with bedliner too so its going to help a tiny little bit i think.

-and yes this box is killer. ive seen it on retail shelves for over 300 and just under 400.

with the subs in it, i paid 300. all brand new. lol plus it came with the 650W clarion amp i have running them.

Fold down rear seats? That would help...

I don't know if this mite be your issue, but I had a bad rattle problem with my 99GAGT. After a lot of time looking at my trunk with no results I found out it was my rear license plate that was making the most noise. So I would suggest looking there before spending any money on your trunk seals. All I needed was a few of those rubber buttons you can buy at Home Depot for cabinet doors.

the plate is, definitely. if you have a look at ours, in comparison to every other car on the road... we dont need screws in them!! im gonna foam tape the shit out of the back of the plate and just jam it in the little slot so its tight in there... i dont care if i cant get it out.
but i had a few friends and with full tilt bass going all of us couldnt hold the rattles completely away, so im not aiming for the sky. but i know alot of what i do inside will help with the bass too. make it the dreaded louder alot of you seem to dislike! lol plus ive heard from a couple people luminas start to leak on the trunk seams and by the tail lights. well all of this is going to be sealed up real good. (gonna need a razor to get the tail lights out the 1st time)
