  • 89 tbi 350 auto dies when you floor it

i realize this is not a 60* engine but a good friend of mine bought an 89 chevy 1500 with 4x4, 350 tbi v8, and he has taken it to half a dozen different mechanics/shops to no avail & about $1500 worth of work done to it. it tends to idle rough & if you put it to the floor it almost instantly dies. he actually had this problem & then the engine blew so he had another 89 350 engine from a van put in it & the problem was the same-the old owner claims that the original motor was cammed, could this have anything to do with it?

    what do you guys think?

Have they replaced the fuel filter and checked the pump. I used to have an 88 silverado with the 305V8 and it would start and idle rough and want to die until it got warmed up and then you could only ease into the throttle or it would cut out. The fuel filter was severely clogged and the pump was going bad. One of the things I failed to check after I got the truck (I was young). The pump and filter solved the problem but then the block cracked and I sold the pickup.

im going to have him check those, also could it be something with the fuel pump or tps sensor? also could it be a problem with the regulation of fuel pressure rather than the supply of that pressure?
