  • considering selling the monte...

alright well if you have read my other posts on here I have been having some issues with my 95 Monte Carlo Z34, and I'm considering selling it to get something more reliable...i am going to college in the fall, which is 3 hours away and i'm a little nervous driving the MC back and forth.

my question is what would be a decent asking price for my car? heres some details:

    The good:
    - 96K miles
    - the car as a whole is cosmetically beautiful for a 1995...the paint shines like new...there are 2 dings on the whole car.
    - tires have lots of tread...the alloy rims have never seen salt or snow (always put snow tires on during winter)
    - 10 disc CD changer
    - 2 inclosed 10 inch subs hooked to a 200 watt amp
    - No stains or signs of wear on the interior.
    - A/C blows cold.
-i would include a set of 4 snow tires mounted on steel rims. About 60 percent tread left.
    - LeBra 2 piece full bra would be included with the sale too.

    The bad:
    -blown head gasket(s).
    -infamous o-ring oil leak.
-The only 2 cosmetic flaws on the whole car is a small surface rust spot near the gas cap, which is extremely common on these cars and the console lid is broke, which is once again very common on these cars.

My Monte Carlo is a beautiful car, there isn't a nicer one that I've seen in my area (northwestern PA) and im going to be sad if i end up selling it.

At this time i AM NOT selling my car, and this is NOT an ad. I am just trying to get a good idea of what i SHOULD ask for it for future reference

    thanks.

considering the blown headgasket and oil leak, don't expect to get more than 2000.
1995 Monte Carlo LS 3100, 4T60E...for now, future plans include driving it until the wheels fall off!

I wouldn't even consider them to be bad problems if you have a decent set of tools and a weekend to GIT-R-DONE!

true, but most people that aren't car enthusiasts, look at an engine and are confused as could be. most people that would consider buying it don't want to instantly work on it either.

yeah...i would consider myself a car enthusiast, but tearing a engine apart is beyond me and i don't have the money for someone else to do it...and thats what makes me wonder if (just about) anyone will even want it...do you think that if i posted it on here for sale someone would buy it?

very good choice. selling your vehicle to someone who is probably going to trash the living hell out of it hits your conscience sooner or later. or at least thats the way it works for me.

at least here, you'll be able to see it live on, although it would obviously be living in some else's garage...

Well, if you lived closer, I would hook you up, but you're like almost 6 hours away from me. It's the thought that counts, right?

First off, I loved my 96 MC Z-34. She rusted out on me, motor was cherry. and the rust was there when i bought her.

But, being a car nut....you Monte is broke. Being broke, your going to have to settle for selling her at a "broke" price.

I paid $600 for mine, because someone timed her cams with all 4 flats up and she ran like shit. They didn't know what was wrong, 20 mins after i got her home, she purred.

I'd be interested, I'm in cleveland, but not for $2k. She maybe pretty, but she's still broke. $800-$1k sight unseen, I'd like to get under her back-end and make sure her trailing arms and the battle boxes where they connect are as clean as the rest of her. Thats what went on mine.
sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:
A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.

thats what they're called??? i just called it the trailing arm mount. mine broke off about 6 months ago, then had it welded back in place with about a 1/4" thick piece of steel to replace the rotted section. holds up well now.

ya, battleboxes. It's fairly common on them. I just got done coating mine on my 94 gp in P.O.R. That should hold a while.

well, the car has been babied her whole life, and I oiled the whole underneath in october before the salt and s**t came, so its very clean (and with the oil leak, theres always oil from the engine back LOL)

and i'll make sure to post a picture of underneath the back end (i didn't realize this was a common problem)
