  • I have a dream (old inline six).

I have this old grocery getter 4 door inline six 77 chevy nova available to me (was mom's old car). For some reason I always liked the car (it was my first car), and against my Dad's wishes, we held onto it.

For the last 10-15 years I've had a dream of finding a lump-port head (modified from original to open up the intake-get rid of intake bolt bosses) to stick on the top of it, then bolting on actual clifford performance headers and intake manifold, then putting a fuel injection unit on it. I guess it could get up to 250-270 HP, depending.

Well, this stuff ain't cheap. In addition to the other stuff I have to fix on the car just to make it safe, the stuff I mentioned above will cost around 3-4 grand to implement if I don't try and find cheap substitute parts, used, etc.

Most folks say just go out and get a 350 ci V-8 and drop it in. I never really wanted to do that, I just wanted to have an original but upgraded inline six with fuel injection.

The reason I'm bringing this up is (and I couldn't believe it) but a custom lump port head is now up for auction on ebay. The price will probably go pretty high (its already at a 100 bucks and climbing). I'm thinking these things are fairly rare and hard to find. I stumbled across this one while bored on the internet.

I wonder if I should sell the car before I do something stupid, or try and pursue my "dream." Advice appreciated.

Sounds like a fun project, I'd go for it.

Nope, don't have any right now, but it looks pretty rough. It's just an old Disco boat. Needs new paint, etc. Have it parked under a shed and I crank it every once and while.

I6's are great and they are coming back into fashion so to speak. People are sick of seeing a small block or big block under every hood. They want something different. Whats the point of going to a car show to see the same engine a hundred times over. Even LS series small blocks are getting old. If your goal is power then yea use a small block or big block. But if you want something different and just for driving then use that old I6.

the I6 in my '06 Trailblazer runs pretty good.. That would be a neat swap into an older car.

I'm rocking an I6 in my Datsun, running EFI from a GM ECM.

The inline novas could be built to be pretty fast.

I got a 78 nova rally but mine has a 350 in it.
