  • Crusie Control ???'s

Hey everyone, I own a 96 Cutlass Supreme 2 door and my cruise control has been dead for a while now....I would like to know what I should be looking for.

The module is in good condition, the electrical plugs are hooked up correctly, and the cable is nice and taught. I think the problem lies with the switch, but before I start taking my column apart I wanted to know if anyone around here has done the same, or had CC problems.

The blinkers work and so do the wipers lights etc, just the cruise is non-functional. I have had to replace the ignition in the car because the wires were stretched, so I am wondering if the cruise is also stretched and not connecting properly.

I am 6'7'' so that is why the ignition had to be replaced, I drive with the tilt wheel almost all the way up!!!

Thanks alot guys, good forum by the way, been coming here for about 4-5 years, just haven't joined until now!!!!

At the base of the turn signal stalk, where it is connected to the column, on the back of the stalk there is a small connector. Unplug that connector, make sure the pins are not corroded, clean on where it plugs into, and then plug it back in. Push it in REALLY HARD.

Make sure the slider is in the middle ON position, then test it out. Remember that the car has to be above 25 MPH to engauge, and sometimes has a lag when setting. Press the SET button firmly then release, and wait to see if it engauges. My car will sometimes drop 5 MPH before it kicks in.

If it still does not set, hold the switch into the R/A setting, and see if the car accelerates. If it does but does not SET, you probably have a bad stalk.

Hey thanks, I think I have a bad stalk. Before the cc died altogether, the accelerate button stopped working, then the cruise died about 4 months later.

I will try what you suggested tonight, but I can't seem to find that stalk for less than $133.00....that's a lot for a little stalk. Know of anywhere I can get one???Car-Parts.com is kinda risky when it comes to electronics out of a junked car right.

I would just go to a local junkyard. You can use any W-body stalk from any 1988-1996, or any other stalk for that matter, as long as it has the connector at the base of the stalk. Some of them have a really long pigtail. Those will not work.
