I started learning on cars by having junk ones that broke down all the time. Get him an 83 Honda Prelude
That one was a good learning experience. I got trained on the exhaust, intake, brakes, and clutch on that car. Then on my 86 2.0Si Prelude, I learned valve lash. My 86 Cougar w/ 351 Windsor taught me something on ignition, timing chain, and EFI. The 91 taught me more EFI, suspension, steering, way more brakes, timing belt, and a whole other slew of stuff. I know I cussed and hated some of my cars, but I have never hated what they taught me.
