  • engine wont shut off!!!

    ’95 BerettaZ26 3.1
Ok here’s what led up to this problem of mine. For a couple weeks the ignition cylinder was getting a bit sticky and the starter wouldn’t fully engage. Now what I mean by that is that it would click (but not like a dead battery) but sometimes it would take a second or two for it to spin. Now I was thinking the brushes are bad but my thoughts have been swayed. Well needless to say I got pissed and started banging up and down on the tilt steering. I know dumb move, but now it starts (w/ the same problem mind you) and I can’t shut the SOB off now!!! It’s stuck in the run position. I have to pull a fuse and disconnect the battery to emulate it in the off position. And obviously it won’t go into AUX either. Anyone ever come across a problem like this? If so Please send me some insight!!! Friends keep telling me that theres wires on the cylinder. Nope sorry!!! Not that I've seen.

P.S. any tricks on how to get the retaining clip back on the lock plate on the column? Any trick that shave any time off my three hour curse and throw $#@T fest

    As always thank you!

    Respectfully,
    Phil

Sounds like the key switch is broke. A new one would be the plan of attack.

        Ignition lock cylinder is bad.

I had this happen to me and oddly, there was a benefit to it. Since it was winter, I could keep the heat on while tearing apart the steering column.

When it really cold out like -30 or so the solenoid clicks but no action, I recently took the starter off and cleaned it up some no problem yet since, original starter. Also the lock cylinder always is hard to turn on mine when the temp is in the negatives, I relubed it some which helped. The first time the started refused to engage I tapped the thing with a mallet and it engaged.

If it is your baby then mabey treating it like better and yeah like not smacking it around and stuff.
