  • Another try at a chat room

Seems like these never get used, or get used when they are first available, and then after a week or 2, use goes away. BUT, I decided to try it yet again anyway.

Link is on the Navigation menu (left side menu). Its not the fanciest chat around, but does it really matter? I don't think so. Anyway, I'll be in there for the next 30 minutes or so (4/10/08 - 5:20pm). Feel free to check it out. Maybe it'll get used more often this time.

Oh, I am also going to try to get ahold of the programmer to see about possibly making a block that shows who is in the chat. I think it would definately get used more if people could see when others are using it. I'm not going to promise anything though...

    how about an IRC channel?

we started one several years ago because we were having problems with the one on V6Z24.com.. it gets used every day, there are currently 22 people in the room.

only problem is that i can't get in there from work

      IRC and xChat FTW!

I used to do some IRC back in the day on a Mac forum, but it's been years.

It would be nice if chat could open in a new (smaller) window so we could keep it to the side while surfing the forum or whatever.

Just open it in a new tab. That's what I do with all pages. I have like 20 tabs open.

Yeah, I know ALLLL about tabs. Just a convenience thing. I like to lurk while I'm doing something else, flipping back to a tab all the time would defeat the purpose.

Also, it doesn't look like there is much scrollback on the chat. If I'm away for a little while (but still lurking in the room), I like to be able to scroll back to get an idea of what's being/been discussed.

I noticed that too. But when I first logged in the chat let me scroll up a long ways. Then later not so much.

It figures that the one guy there would take a screen shot of me checking in.
