Knowing my right from my left

Simple question: On a longitudinal engine, is the right and left sides of the engine taken from the perspective of the cabin, where the drivers side is the "Left" side? Or from the front of the engine bay where the drivers side would be "Right"?

A related simple question: When referring to "Bank #1", would that be the side of the engine beginning with Cyl. #1? Which I'm inclined to say "Left", but considering my previous question, might be wrong.

My wiring harness has the O2 sensor wires labeled "Bank #1" and "Bank #2". I plugged it in the most logical way to me, but I'm having a closed loop running issue, so I suspect I might have them backwards.

Right side. All manuals should refer to the vehicle's left and right as you would see it sitting in the drivers seat.

Unless you have a european car and the steering wheel is on the opposite side, the passenger side is always on the same side. What if you were looking at the car from the side, then it wouldn't be on the right or left, but directly in front of you. :P Hence the reason I ask why do you want a definate left or right answer?

Because my wiring diagram said "Right" and "Left" oxygen sensor, but the wires were labeled "Bank #1" and "Bank #2". Seemed to be in conflict to me. I think I have it right now, thanks.
