  • BOSE question

    I have a 1995 Cutlass Supreme.

I know the Aurora, and the Intrigue were offered with BOSE radio's, so getting a BOSE radio is not a problem.

There is a Lumina Z34 at a local yard that has a Z34 with BOSE.

Can I take the speakers and wiring out of that (I know there is a LOT of wiring to do, but that is my HOBBY).

I can use the Z34 BOSE speakers with the Aurora BOSE radio, and have a BOSE setup in my 1995 Cutlass Supreme?

Will that work good, or not.

And don't tell me it is not worth doing it. I would only do it out of BOREDOM.

I'm going to say it, it's NOT WORTH DOING! If it's boredom that ails you, find something that will yeild better results, to waste your time with.

The Bose systems IMO sound like poo, I work in the car audio industry, and would actually prefer the non Bose systems, as they are easier to upgrade, and actually sound about teh same IMO.

You're best using some good quality aftermarket equipment to improve the sound of your car.

Well, I disagree for several reasons.

The main one is I PREFER the STOCK head units. The ONLY reason I put a Pioneer head unit and new speakers in my STE is that ALL of the speakers were blown, and the stock CD player did not eject and it did not pick up radio stations.

I have driven in several cars with BOSE, and without, and I prefer BOSE. It has sounded far better than any STOCK setup I have ever used.

In my area, it does not matter WHAT you drive. If you have an aftermarket stereo, you WILL get broken into. Even if the faceplate is not in the car. Aftermarket head unit means aftermarket speakers, etc.

I am going tomorrow to get the speakers. Since I have the inteior of my car torn apart right now to do some other wiring, I might as well install them now.

The only problem I can think of would be getting past the TheftLock system. I know there are fixes out there you just gotta find them.

You just need to put the proper code into the deck.

Hmm, I guess your area is different than mine, Aftermerket deck does NOT always mean aftermarket speakers.

Besides, there are ways to keep it looking completely factory when not in use.

I just live by the old saying:

"No highs, no lows, MUST be Bose." Which was re-confirmed just a few days ago, a customer with a Bose system came in and wanted more bass and more highs, but he said the midrange was decent.

Do what you want, but it's WAY more work than it's worth.

I had a '93 z34 with the bose, and it actually seemed to have less wiring other than a funky looking ground wire of some sort that went to the rear amp.
I used a late 90's factory cd deck, but I had to cut one wire from the factory harness and run it to the radio fuse for the backlight to work (due to the Lumina having dash lights that come on after the door was closed). I used the stock front speakers in their enclosures in the doors. I had high power 3-way 6X9's wired to the stock amp in the rear deck.
With the fader adjusted more one way (to compensate for bose and non-bose items), It was a very well balanced system with great highs/mids and excellent lows.

I went back today and got ALL the bose stuff out of that Z34. For $10, I could not pass it up. I got both rear speakers, both front speakers with the enclosures, and the bose amp. I also pulled the dash out of the car and got the entire wireing harness that goes from the main block connector to the amp.

Basically, I got it in such a way that NONE of my wires will have to be cut (especially for the amp). I also grabbed the radio plugs.

As for the theftlock, with the newer radios, if it has not been programmed in, then it is not a problem.

The radio in my 1995 Cutlass Supreme is messed up as well (broken buttons, missing knobs, and it is only CASSETTE instead of the CD/CASSETTE combo). Since I need to replace the radio anyways, I am just going to get an Aurora BOSE one off of Ebay. They are pretty much a dime a dozen. Either an Aurora, or an Intrugue. Both had bose.

My Cutlass Supreme is missing the rear speakers anyways, and since I have the dash torn out to wire in the HUD, and fix a crack in it, I might as well add it all in now.

All that I will have left to do is get an Acoustimass Bass module, and I will be set.

This is my interior right now, so as you can see, wiring it up will not be that difficult. If nothing else, I will run the wires, and wire it all up later.

Anyways, here are some pics of the BOSE crap that I am going to install in my 1995 Cutlass Supreme. There are 2 door speakers with enclosures, 2 rear speakers, the amp, and I got the COMPLETE wiring.

Of the pic of my car with the words START and FINISH, that is showing how LONG the wiring harness is for the BOSE amp.

                  Anyways, here are the pics:

do you have any pictures of the front of the bose harnas? once upon a time i attempted to add bose to my car, and gave up/lost interest. now that i went back to a factory cd deck it is kind of a moot point. but i want to see how you wire it into a non bose car.

When you say front, do you mean the plug for the AMP, or the plug for the radio?

The way it is wired up, the AMP has 3 connectors. The main one in the middle, and then 2 small ones that go to each speaker (3 wires for each speaker I might add).

The other end of the wiring harness goes into the main block connector (C200, I think). It is the BIG block connector under the passenger side of the dash, almost against the side of the car. It just has a blade of wires to put in. the other side of the blade goes to the radio, etc. I will take some pics when I compare the wiring for the BOSE to the wiring in my 1995 Cutlass Supreme (later this week).

If you need specific pics, let me know, and I will take lots more.

I will try to get a pic tomorrow, but it might be MONDAY before I will get to work on the cars again. I will take a pic of the C200 connector in the WIRING, and compare it to the STOCK one.

                            Here are the pics.

This is the BLADE that is plugged into the BACK of the C200 connector (I think it is C200, but I don't have my book here to verify that. I did decent pics, so you can make it out). This BLADE is what goes from C200 to the AMP.

This is the BLOCK CONNECTOR on the CAR side. This is what the BOSE BLADE goes into from the BACK. My car had a BLANK area there, so the BOSE one will just pop right in.

This is the CAR SIDE of the C200 block connector. I circled the arear where the BOSE wires go, but mine does not have ANY wires going there. Fortunantly, I pulled the pins from the car I got all of this out of, and they go from the car side to the radio. I just popped them right in, and will disconnect, and not use the stock ones (that seemed to be the easiest way to do it. Once I get the AURORA service manual, I might redo it, but for now, I am doing it this way.
