yeah the corolla ae86 has a little 4 banger, and it looks almost back heavy, yet they drifted pretty damn well. oh and i watched the thirdgen drift videos on youtube, kinda inspiring, despite the fact that they used ls1s haha

Another thing about the V6 vs. V8 topic; a stock 3500 makes more power than a stock 305. If you had a 350 a T5 may not be able to handle the extra torque for long which may force you to upgrade to a T56 which isn't cheap.

i heard the t-5 was kinda weak, how much does a tranny adapter go for? cant be more than building the t-5 up....

Around here the price difference between a T5 and T56 is about $1300. Some say building a T5 is a waste of money because the case is one of its weak links. A WC T5 is definitely a bit better though.

It's also possible to bolt up a Toyota r154 or W58 with the right bellhousing. T56 can also bolt up. And there are probably several others that aren't worth mentioning.

people dont really talk about using the other ones, does that mean they are worse than the t5?

People don't talk about using them because afaik no one actually has. That doesn't mean it would be terribly difficult to do though.

For the r154 IIRC you need a late 90s-early 2000s dodge Dakota 2.5L bellhousing, and for the W58 I believe you need a late 80s-early 90s jeep 2.5L bellhousing (YJ I think). You'd probably need a custom pilot bushing for either trans but the rest of the conversion should be possible with off-the-shelf parts.

A T56 can be done with off the shelf parts as well. I have one in my car behind a 3500T.

i hear t5s suck by so many people, how reliable are those ones? and which do you think would be better? and i thought the t56 needs an adapter :0

You'd probably find more W58 and R154 reliability info on Supra forums, but guys commonly use them with 2jzgtes and 7mgtes. Which are turbo inline-6s.

T56 requires a $75 adapter and HTOB. Doesn't require any custom parts really as you can use a stock flywheel and clutch for a 4th gen 3.4L.

Because I already had the T56 before starting the project.

Find out how much mileage it has, make sure you can shift into all the gears, check for any obvious issues like a loose input shaft or output shaft. Chances are if the vehicle it comes from was wrecked in an accident it was in working condition.
