newer j bodies came with the 2.4 that makes 150hp, but never 150hp from a v6. they had 120hp in 85-86 from the 2.8, 130hp from the 2.8l gen 2 motor in 88-89, and 140 from the 3.1 in 90-94.

That's what I mean 150HP from a 4 cylinder, much lighter drive train and chassis. Sorta makes 160HP in a Big-Ole F-Body V-6 seem kinda dull.

Actually - yes, breaking the tires loose is no problem at all. Its all about the gearing

Sappy, the conclusion came from actual numbers. Comparitively 3" exhausts on 4th gen F-Bodies results in greater power throughout the entire powerband, not just peak power. The board the results were done on archives their shit and everything is from a year or two ago so its all deep in the archives. The 2.5" pipes on NA motors produced more low end grunt and higher torque numbers but after peak the HP dropped like a rock. On 3" exhaust the power curves changed from low end to free up a lot more power in the top end. Its not always about peak power. At 5000rpms a set of headers have been known to see an increase of 10hp over what the stock manifolds did. At peak power, it may only be 5, but like I said, its the curve where we see the increases. On stock exhaust (which goes from 2.5" to the cat to a 2 1/4" pipe to stock muffler) once you hit peak power these cars fall flat on their face. With a 3" setup they actually push harder longer with an increase as seen on one dyno of 11rwhp over stock curve where the stock exhaust had a dip in power between about 5000-5200rpms and a 7hp increase over stock between 3500 and 4000rpms..

You guys can talk 2.5" exhaust to death but fact is its not always about peak power its about making power thru the curve. Your car may hit 200 peak horsepower, but that wont help you if you fall down to 150hp before redline.. Do you know what I'm saying?

Yet look at the year differences And might I ask what motor you have in your car? 1995 Pushrod 60* V6 vs 2000 DOHC Inline 4? la-de-da.. And how much torque does that 4 cylinder make? 150? Stock my shitty 3.4 is making 200 at the fly..

And them 4 cylinders have about 100 lb-ft less torque. Amen

Well I don't beleive in 4-cylinders myself. I was just comparing them for arguments sake. I personaly rock-out a 94' LQ1 - 210HP GM stock spec. if you must know.

                    yeah i would rather have a 3.1 in a jbody than a 2.4
and yeah actually if you have a 3" and your planning to put a supercharger on or something then i can understand that
