  • Newbi to the fourm, got a Rendezvous project.

This is is my second V6 project. First one was an 01 Century (piston slap) that I still drive. This time I have an 05 Rendezvous. I need to pull the motor, I've heard they come out through the top, barely, or from underneath. Anybody have any first hand knowledge they want to share?

it might come out through the top with some of the top end removed, but i would personally unbolt the A/C compressor and push it off to the site, disconect the wiring and fuel lines cables ext. and drop the whole drive train out the bottom on the subframe. would work great with a 2 post hoist and 4 jack stands. take out the 3 tourqe converter bolts before you drop it down along with the starter, it will make life...better....

    Its runs!!!>>>Aint No 60* Sound Like Mehttp://youtu.be/YKEmNwa141U

Not to threadjack but I'm curious as to what you did with the Century?
We have a 2002 Buick Century with piston slap so bad that it sounds like someone knocking 2, 20lb wrenches together upon startup and it never really goes away once the car warms up.
However the car (so far) runs and performs fine. It's been very bad for 2-3 years and has been in general making the noise for about 6 years.

Defiantly sounds familiar.. ours sounded like a diesel.
I ended up going .030 over after inspection by my machinist, new rings and bearings, including cam bearings, also freeze plugs. I'm sure everything came from NAPA. I told them I wanted the best pistons i could get, they all had the black coating on the skirts. I did not do any headwork since it only had about 45,000 miles at the time.
That engine came out easily through the top, my Haynes manual was all the info I needed for the whole project.
I did not replace the headbolts, I've put 40,000 miles since the overhaul, motor is silent, 31 to32 MPG on the interstate.

Thanks for the reply bob442. I do have access to a 2 post hoist. With the removal you are sugesting the front suspension comes out too? if so then I'm looking at a few brake lines and a steering link or 2? The reason I like the idea of the bottom thing is I like to get a tourque wrench on as much stuff as possible, this seems like the best rout for that. Is there a print out of the steps involved somewhere/ I'd hate to leave something hooked or have my car do a wheelie after releasing the whole front just about.

Our motor has close to 150 000 km now.
What happens if you do nothing about it? I mean realistically if the car runs another year I think my parents would be happy.
My Malibu has the piston slap too but much quieter when compared to the Century. The Century still performs fine from a power and mileage prespective.
Last time I asked I believe they were averaging 24-26 mpg in mixed conditions. I borrowed it from them (gotta love the trunk space!) A couple of days ago, drove 80 km and wasted practically nothing.

Sorry again for contiuing this here.
Keep us up to date on your project, those engine bays are tight, it's certianly not something I'd want to try.

all you do is undo the ball joints, you shouldnt even need to unbolt the axels, just pop them out of the transmission and stick them off to the side, and the sway bar you could just unbolt the links. i'm not sure how the rack and pinion is held in on those vehicles, but its a easy call to make as to what to do when you look at the vehicle from undernieth, it will most likely be easiest to leave it up in the vehicle and separate it from the subframe.
