  • My 91 & 92 5 speed Z34's...

The pics of the 92 are of it in its "war paint" after going to the drag strip the other night, lmao. The 91 is the one under the cover. The 92 only comes out in the spring/summer/early fall, and the 91 comes out in the late fall/winter. I am not going to get into details of mods of either car because I plan on putting a spare computer (AMD K6-2) to work as a Linux server/gateway, and making a webpage on it dedicated to my cars.

Thanks! 15.6 was the best time. K&N, and a chip is the only performance mods. Then again the brakes and 18's don't help times, lol. My time slips were:

            Run #_____1______2_______3
            Reaction___.658____.801____.589
            60 ft______2.500___2.433___2.448

            1/4 MPH___89.07___88.26___88.26

I ran against (well not really against, it was Test & Tune night) a car that ran a 10.703@123.95 (he red lighted, lol), a truck that ran a 13.000@107.37, and a Sunfire that kicked my arse running a 14.359@96.60. I ran against the Sunfire on a 4th run, but the dumbass came up to the light to late, setting off the auto start, and I went because my lights counted down, but for some fuct up reason it didn't start counting anything on that run for me. I was kinda pissed because it felt like a good run. Still had a blast though.

EDIT, had to put the lines in so everything lined up alright, otherwise it all blended together because it took the spaces I had in there out.

Not bad, work on those 60' time though. Your Z' spin a lot off the line? That 89mph trap should net you real low 15's on a good launch.

It didn't spin real bad off the line. I have BFGoodrich T/A gforce KDW's on it. Pretty good tires. Rated 9.5 out of 10 for dry traction on TireRack. I think the clutch has something to do with the 60ft times. On one launch I had it at about 3-3500, rode the clutch a little (very little) right of the line to avoid spin, and when I was moving, got the rpms up to about 4500 and dropped the clutch. Tires didn't spin a bit, but it felt like the clutch was slipping some at that point. Ever since putting that clutch in, it hasn't felt right. Come to think of it, it has been that way ever since having the car, before the first clutch failed. The pedal seems low too, so I have plans on replacing all the main bearings in hopes the thrust bearing has worn a bit, keeping the clutch away from the slave cyl more then it should, netting a low pedal. I hope anyways, lol. The guy that had it before me also put a bit of dynamat in the car (basically the whole trunk and passenger compartment), so it is a little bit heavier then a stock Z. Not making excuses here, lol, just stating facts I do need to work on my launches though.

You still have the factory stipe, I really didn't like it so I took it off... and the paint under it is so damned glossy... I like the shiney-ness of your paint. *extremely jealous* Hah. The wheels look pretty nice too, I was never sure about more than 5 spokes on a Z34, but it doesn't look bad. The tires look a little too low-pro for the car though, maybe 245/45-18's? I don't think they'd rub. Don't you / didn't you have 235/60-16's on one of the cars?

EDIT: I'm not suggesting you change the tires now, I know you just got new ones. I bet these handle way better than my Mustang tires (when I was shopping around, everyone asked if they were for a mustang cause of the size). Also, has anyone heard of people running 255's?

I know Michael was running 255's. Yeah, 245/45 18's would pretty much put my speedo dead nuts. It runs a hair higher then it really should because of the tires. I think the previous owner said that the tires are 3% smaller then what the car is supposed to have. The only problem is that those tires do not come in 245/45's from tire rack (I would hate to see how long Discount would take to order tires, and I pretty much needed them no later then when I bought them, lol). Don't be too jealous of the paint. Look closely at the roof and trunk lid. The hot Texas sun killed it. It looks more like it was in a sand storm (it even feels rough) and it's more like dark grey on top now, lol. The hood also has rock chips because it is the hood from the 91. The 92's hood had paint peeling on it from body work that didn't hold up when Nick had the car, so I swapped hoods, putting the better hood on the nicer looking car. I would like to have the car repainted some time soon, but I would rather make it faster right now. The stripe did bother me when I first got it. I have the one on the 91 still too. The one on the 91 is solid grey, and the one on the 92 is of course grey/red. I thought about it the other day, and I am just going to leave it on, instead of ordering one for a 91 to get rid of the red. Reason being I am going to highlight under the hood with red vacuum hose and wire loom to dress it up some, and the red outside strip won't look too bad with it. I also have some red caliper paint to do the calipers soon, hopefully At least no one has said anything about my $20 ebay special riceboy Xenon foglights, lol!

I put xenon riceboy fogs on my mom's Euro when I used to drive it all the time (before I got the Z). Hey, they're functional, right? They look almost exactly like your's, they were Walmart specials.

I'm gonna paint my calipers when I get new brake lines (two of them are cracking pretty bad ). I need to like pressure wash them with like 700PSI or something... well that might melt them. They're gross.

Is Michael on the forums? I wanna know if they rub, cause if they don't, my next set of tires will be 255/40-17's. Wider is better...... Wrong devision I know, but my Z gives me plenty of excitement.

Yeah, his SN is Bowtiekid79. Do you have an air compressor? If so I suggest going to Autozone, or Walmart and getting a sandblaster. It is made by that kinda cheap company with the blue boxes. I am thinking Campbell-Housefield or something like that for some reason. I think they run about $20-25 at Autozone, and cheaper at Walmart from what I have heard. Then go to Lowes, Menards, or any supply warehouse and get a bag of sand. I use a sand called Black Magnum and it works great. You can use it on all sorts of things, from intake manifolds, valve covers or anything really. It's one of the best tools I have ever bought to tell you the truth. Gets rust off of exhaust manifolds, cleans heads really nicely, and any other metal surface that has a stubborn gasket that won't come off. Just wear a hat, a good pair of goggles or safety glasses (I would rather use goggles), and don't wear loose clothing cause that shit gets everywhere, lol.

Or I can go into my friend's shop and use his sandblaster I have experience with them, I was sandblasting his trunk lid for his '63 T-Bird. They are great tools.

                          Thanks for the advice.

A few more pics of my not so L33T spray painting skilz... The middle pic of the rear caliper doesn't look right. It is the same color as the front, out of the same can, it just looks funny because of the flash. The rotor is basically just showing that the rear rotors in the RSM big brake kit are redrilled Corvette rotors to fit on our lug pattern. I didn't think to take pics of the fronts in progress, and mostly got the rears taken while they were drying.
