My Name is Kristopher, and have been a member since 09. I own two Pontiac 6000 STE's, which I enjoy very much. Last August, I drove down from Tacoma, WA to S. CA without any problems. I averaged 26 mpg, which I considered to be pretty good.
I got hooked on STE's when I was selling Pontiac. Every STE we got in was pre-sold, but one day I took a customer for a drive and I was hooked. I drove a V6 6000 to a car show with 6 friends, and I was impressed. Later, in October of 88, I bought one. I still have it with me. In November, 07, I purchased another 85 STE in Tacoma.
After work, I would go to the mountains just to experience flying around corners. That was VERY enjoyable. For I love the STE for it handles well, has the power I need, came totally equipped, with two options only: sunroof and pig skin suede upholstery.

Any pics of the STE's?

I've always been a fan of the oddball GM cars, the Pontiac 6000 STE being one. These cars have become extremely uncommon, glad to see not just one, but two getting some love.

I'd love to have an STE myself, and do a hybrid LA1/LX9 turbo build.

Thank You or your kind words. The second STE was on Craigslist, and when I called, he stated it was an 's something'. I quickly went down and sure enough, it was what I expected. He gave me the keys and I drove it whereby it met with my approval. Immediately after purchasing it, I had the transmission flushed, the cooling system flushed, flushed the oil, gave the car a thorough tune up, had the fuel system cleaned using the Motor Vac system, had the car painted, since it did not look as if the previous owner washed the car often, re-did the headliner and power steering. $650.00 for the car, and about $1,750.00 getting the car to where it would be, for me, a reliable car.

i wouldn't call the 6000STEs oddballs, but they were certainly ahead of their time... the really late digi dashes look cool as hell at night.

Well, maybe not an oddball.

Still, I want one. The last running Pontiac 6000 I've seen was a dark blue base model with the 2.5L Iron Duke. Had 252,000 miles, had some rust spots on the driver's door and rear quarter panels, but ran like a champ.

I've yet to see any V6 powered 6000's.

You are correct in that it is getting damn dificult to find an STE in any condition. I purchased an 87 with a bad transmission and no correct drivers seat. For $300 I acquired the d.rivers i.nformation m.odule which I called a Pontiac dealer 7 years ago, and they wanted $1,200 for one. The only items I did not take were items I did not need now and in the immeadiate future. I packed up all I needed, labled all I took placed the items in plastic bags and placed a label inside indicating what the parts were for. So, the car was stripped. We tried taking out the quarter windows, but it was too difficult. So, when I found another junked STE, I jumped at the chance.
