  • newbie here

Been kinda lurking about on the site a few days and have learned a bit in the process. There's a whole lot more customization than I had thought possible on my Prix. It's good to see so many in one spot with so many similar interests and I feel I can contribute. I dont see many posts/members with the 00+ type 3100's, which is what I'm running at the moment.

So. Hello to all! And see you around the message board =)

Welcome. You're right, not too many 97+wbody members posting here. I have a 95 grand prix with a 3400 and a 02 grand prix with a supercharged 3.8.

Tell us more about your goals and what you are looking for in performance out of your 3100!

Just from all the digging I did through the search button I do believe I'm looking at a 3100/3400 hybrid. Not looking for massive amounts of hp. around 180 - 200. Though I know the mod bug will continue biting lol.

But just from the 3400 heads I dont know what gains to expect. Plans arent completely solid as of yet. I may mod quite a bit, or I might just get a GTP. I am open to suggestions, whether it's 3100/3400 turbo/SC.

As for what the car already has. Warm Air Intake, 140 T-stat (not sure about this one.. the temp never hits the 1/4 line) and low-pro tires.

Few things we need to get straight. 2000+ 3100 engines have the same heads and upper & lower intake manifolds as the 3400. Your upper intake says 3100 but is the same casting as a 3400 intake. So this is good news for you. The difference is in the shortblock and your 3100 has a smaller throttlebody. You have a 52mm TB and the 3400 has a 56mm TB.

You could have your heads/intakes ported and add a cam for some nice gains.

You either have a 160/180 or 195 Tstat.

So it's more than likely removed, or a 160 T-stat. I'll have to check on the next coolant flush.

So I could get the entire intake assembly (UIM and LIM) off an alero, impala, or grand am, and put that on.

I dont have a lot of experience in working on cars. But I plan on learning.

I would put in a 180 tstat or stock as soon as possible for gas mileage.

You could get an entire intake assembly off of those platforms, they are the exact same as what you have now. I take it you are shopping for cores? Just make you sure you buy 00+ parts. Don't buy 96-99 3400 intake manifolds.

Yea just getting an idea on pricing. I didn't know that having a low temp t-stat impacted gas mileage. Makes sense though. I been getting about 20-23mpg highway

20-23 should be city mpg. Around 28-30ish hwy. When was your last tuneup and what spark plugs are you running?

Well I just got the car about a month ago. Dont Know when the last tune-up was. But I do know the MAF sensor is unplugged and the O2 sensor is bad. I know that kills mileage. I am running ethanol free gasoline and it doesn't seem to help any. The spark plugs I have no clue. Probably factory installed. Was thinking about doing those within the month actually. It's been warm lately.
