  • New guy with 3.4 DOHC Fiero / 355 replica

    Hi guys,
I'm an Army helicopter pilot in Georgia (when I'm not in Iraq) and have been into Fiero's and engine swaps since the late nineties, so I've been around the 2.8 alot and recently have been playing with a 97 3.4 dohc. I've been lurking and researching posts on this site for a while and am thinking of building up my DOHC before a turbo install. I figured I'd introduce myself and show a couple of pics of my engine and car. Ideally I'd like to duplicate the success of guys like Matt Hawkins and Kohburn with a turbo install. I'll get more specific in the DOHC area.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I really like the personality of the dohc, I think it fits a red Italian bodied Fiero perfectly.
Here's a few more pics since you asked.

Glad you like it! The Fiero is a fun little car to play around with. Mine is a replica of a 1997 Ferrari 355 Berlinetta. The body is from Air Dynamics in GA. The Mera's were Pontiac built replicas of the 308 Ferrari like Magnum PI used to drive back in the 80's.

Looking at the interior pic, that kit looks overall better than the Mera kit did. The finish is cleaner & the interior makeover looks far more involved than the original. Bet that kit cost a few pennies. Didn't see you at the anniversary in Pontiac, your car definitely would've been a trophy winner. One Mera did show up, owner was from Indiana.

I would've loved to go to that show. I've been out of the loop for a while but really want to make it to some shows next summer. PM me when the next big one is. Since I live in GA the shows in the SE would be easier to attend.

                      Welcome from another newbie!

Off topic, but what 'copters do you fly? Our son was in for 7 years and was a mechanic working on the Apache's and was stationed near Savannah for a couple years. He also did 16 months in South Korea and a year in Iraq. Thank you for your service!

I fly Blackhawks. I've also been to Korea a couple of times. Is your some still wrenching on Apaches? Not a bad way to earn a living. Thanks for the kind sentiments. It's sure good to be home this Christmas, think of the guys still over there this holiday as we chow down on turkey in our nice warm houses. That being said, I can't wait until it warms up and I can start going to the cruise-ins and cars shows again.

He's considering moving down to Arizona where they build them, but this past year he's just been happy to be back home (Iowa) and has essentially been on an extended vacation! As far as I'm concerned, all you guys and gals in the service have earned a long vacation and my appreciation for what you do.
