  • My ride (1997 Monte Carlo LS)

Yea I just joined. Anyway you read correctly...1997 Monte Carlo LS...Almost bone stock. Except for the foam air filter which helps make the car get up a little quicker on those nightly highway races. Heh I smoked...or I guess I should say dismissed a plymouth or dodge neon the other day. It was riced out(loud exhaust, boost guage w/o boost) so it was really no competition.

Since this pic i've taken the rest of the stock airbox out(tube from MAF to outside of head light assembly).

3rd Edit:Also that is a fresh coat of red and a fresh(obviously not new) 3100. Please tell me your opinions and also good modding ideas(even though I won't be able to mod it until sometime in '07).

Looks good. I was thinking the paint looked really nice, then read that it was new.

      Thanks^^^

One thing that is starting to anger me is the speed limiter I now know it works very well. It drops the rpm from like 5k to 2.5k at around 104 and I cant accelerate any more.

How is that...I thought the round foam filters had higher flow than cone filters?

OOooooooo -_- I read that with higher flow there is a lower filtration rate. But I still wanna know how it is hurting performance *goes to advance auto and buys an conical air filter*.

Leave the old airbox in or find a way to get the filter into the fender.

See those filters, with nothing to shiled them from the heat, become heat soaked within minutes of the engine warming up. The engines run at what like 200 degrees. So basically you have 200 degree air running into your engine, which causes a loss of performence..

There is way more to it...i am just to tired.

Hmmm I don't think they become too heat soaked. Its actually sitting on the A/C condenser right now cuz the stock air box is completely out(I.E. You can look down and see the ground from the engine bay where the air box was). When I touch the filter(plastic) it isn't hot at all. I usually open my hood after a race to check...stuff. I haven't noticed any problems or a performance decline. I did notice an improvement in acceleration and high end torque over stock.

The stock air box inlet was oblong, about 2 1/2" wide and 4" high.

Ok Point taken so I bought a shielded filter...Now i wanna know how can I polish the UIM? And that if I wanted to change out the rubber or whatever hose used for the intake with a metal one. Do I have to make a hole for the Intake temp sensor too? Also how do I reset the Change Oil Soon Light? Unfortunately when I bought the car it didnt come with a manual.
