  • Getting rid of my headers and going back to manifolds

I've decided that my headers suck total ass. You can ask Ben, or anyone else that has seen my car. I plan on going to manifolds, here is my question.

What do you guys think about porting the stock manifolds. Right now, it doesn't look like headers are coming anytime soon, and I know I don't have a budget to get my own set made. I'm thinking getting the stock manifolds ported and then maybe ceramic coated, or getting them wrapped is the way to go.

What do you guys think? What kind of power increase would I possibly see?

Were these the headers that aaron made a few years back? Are they really that bad? I cant see manifolds getting you more power than even shitty headers. I have no idea on the power gains/losses from ported manifolds. Good luck though.

Porting the manifolds really wont get you a whole lot if anything. The manifolds are designed around the bolts which means the flow restriction is in the indentations for the bolt holes. You can't really port that. Extrude hone might help some but still, waste of money. Don't wrap the manifolds or you will get more KR and worse performance. Ceramic coating is about all I would do on them.

Hmmm, well I was hoping that you would post Ben, because you know the most about my shitty headers. Just wondering but how would I get more KR from wrapping them?

So, getting them ported (if possible) wouldn't be worth the gains?

Yes, these headers suck....ask Ben. They are more of a hassle than anything. Ben doesn't think he can tune them, everything is hot as hell in the engine bay..etc.

Thanks! I'm open to more suggesstions also.

It might be possible if all the holes are welded shut, the O2 is located after both sides merge, and a heated O2 is used. I could try after that is done but those headers aren't something I want on my car. Aftermarket ECM with 6 EGT sensors would work fine with them.

I'm done with these headers. There is nothing I want to do with them.

I'll trade you a set of stock manifolds for them. I'll even deliver and pick up.

              Don't ask my intentions....

No I plan on keeping the headers around, so if/when I ever do get another set made, I can use these as a blueprint.

Also I have a set of manifolds.

So Ben, can you explain why I would get more KR and worse performance with wrapped manfolds?

I've always thought that warmer are has more velocity, thus exiting the exhaust sooner.

Because you are going to keep the manifold itself from cooling, which heats up the head more, which leads to more KR. Lorenzo had wrapped manifolds on his motor and had a lot of KR. Took the wrap off and KR was down to 1-2 degrees max plus not at all the RPM points it used to be.

IIRC-Ben you have ceramic coated manifolds correct? Did you leave the headshiedling on? Also did you leave the headshiedling on the crossover and get that ceramic coated or no?

THey aren't ceramic coated anymore because chris is a newb and didnt know to double coat them. I left the shields on and didnt do the crossover.
