  • Fbody MAF

Is there any issues with running a MAF from an Fbody? How about gains? I have seen someone else talking about using these and wondered what the gains might be.
I dont know what this means but "ASS HATS" is funny

It won't do you any good unless your throttle body and tubing are the same size as the MAF.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

I am thinking of porting out the intake tube and adding a larger TB. Do we know anyone that has done this?

I have an lt1 maf on my car. It works great. basically I all I did was slap the end housings on. They are 3.5" instead or 3" and it does wonders for the turbo. The centers are the same, just the ends are different.

Your not going to gain anything unless your are maxing out your existing maf. the one in the car is calibrated in the ECU to your vehicle. if you put a larger MAF your car will not run properly. You have to calibrate it to your car. D.O.H.C. is running the stock MAF with basicly a ported housing. it can cause you to go lean because it is calibrated fro the smaller housing. on a NA car it will not be any improvement. wouldn't recommend a different maf.

for any gains you will have to use a LS1 3.5" maf, T/B and custom intake pipe. Then you have to calibrate your ecu to the new mods. In order to use a LS1/N* T/b you will need to do some custom intake manifold work to make it fit. Its allot of work for very little gain.

if you had a 1996-97 intake manifolds then it would be easier because it allready has a seporate T/B and tube from the UIM to the T/B. but the older UIM would have to be cut and welded for you to swap the T/B

I have ported my stock lq1 maf out to 3" dia inside all the way to the sensor. it caused my fuel trims to be lean 18% over my previous ported maf... it had the center venturi removed and the screen removed aswell.. that alone i think was another 15-20% change in flow.

i have seen with most cars you end up with drivability issues when trims are 20% in either direction. the gains are not noticable. for the time and money spent dont do it unless you know it is a restriction. for me the stock and even my 1st ported maf became a restriction. i bored the maf to 3" cause i have a hole saw/drill bit that made it a quick project.
