  • C100 Swap update and ?

    So i got the old harness 99% out. just need to pull the Alt. and remove the connections on the alternator and the '95 harness is out. Any Tips on getting the Alt. out. I have never done one myself, im sure i can figure it out but just wanted to make sure there wasnt anything tricky.

    Couple questions. What sensors do i need to add? I know the EGR is one and 2nd O2, but im going to disable them using HPT. Do i need to add another knock sensor? if so where is it added.

    Answered my 2nd question
    these are the questions i had. everything else looks to be straight forward.

    the 2 wire plug is for the power steering pressure switch.

        If i leave it unhooked it will not have power assist at low speeds and reverse. No biggie.

        The swap is pretty straight forward. I did have to swap the connectors from the old harness to the new one for the transmission neutral safty switch i believe. other then that it plugs right in. Altho i does appear that the harness is shorter in some areas had to strech a couple wires . I have just the UIM to install again and also swap the knock sensor from the 1995 to the 1996 and hookup the alt and i think its ready to fire up.

        I did notice a couple pins on the firewill harness are different, so i may need to swap them around.

            Yeah i did the swap with the engine in. the harness went in easier then it came out i can tell you that for sure. but other then reaching the rear knock sensor everything went pretty smooth. it was about as easy is i antisipated. i did have to ratchet the motor forward and also yank the turbo out to get everything tho.

              Well the car started and ran last night. I need to get the rear Knock sensor replaced so i can read knock and also swap the DLC to the OBDII Style. and we are good to go.

                I also have a 3 wire connection on the engine harness between the TPS/IAC and the EGR, anyone know what it goes to?

                The bulkhead connector was a snap. Pwmin and i added a 12v power w/ a 60amp maxi fuse to L1 and swapped E1 to A3 (pink wire) and she started. I found the OBDII data link conector for $2 P/N: 12110250 and will need to add a signal wire.

                  I'm glad those swap directions work. That sounds like a really easy wiring harness mod!

                    yeyah. now, i cant wait to do it to mine

                    now, i have a 96 block, so i have provisions for both knock sensors and the crank and cam position sensors are there, but i have 91 cams, so my cam position sensor wont be useable since the cams dont have the reluctor ring. do i need the 94+ cams or can i just remove the fault reporting forthe code(s)?

                          The map sensor is up by the TB on the '96? everything was easy except E1 to A3 not A3 to E1. E1 is a small wire (16 gauge i think) and A3 is a large wire (12 gauge or so)... I crimped it on anyhow and hope it will be fine. if not i will have to trace the wire and run a new wire.

                          I also need to know if 2 knock sensors are required, if so i need to find a place to put the 2nd (Front).

                            Once i add J2 i can also swap to the new style DLC. It appears you need to add another ground to the new sytle DLC. P/N: for the data link is 12110250. allot of dealers don't stock it and you have to buy a pack of 5 to get them. Luckly they are ~2.50ea.

                              Sorry about getting those wires mixed up. I fixed the spreadsheet now.

                              The MAP sensor is just behind the TB on the intake arm. If you find a stock one, you can probably remove the rubber grommet on it and run it through a vacuum hose to the intake.
