  • need a sticky with cam timing info

was thinking since the question comes up a lot, can we make a sticky with all the degrees for the timing mod. i know the times are diff depending if the car is stick or auto and 96+ or prior years.

i know the basic is 6/6 but heard that is for stick on the older motors

i just saw in another post that just retarding the exhaust 12 will give better high rpm and the 6/6 gives better low... has anyone tried a 6/12? i dont know the stock opening and closing degrees so its hard for me to visulize what would be better or worse as for valve overlap.

but basicly i would like to know whats best for a 96 auto... i have a computer tuner so even if it throws off spark timing i can readjust that. so now its just fining whats physically best to get the most out of the motor. i would like to extend the power/tq down to about 2500 rpm and retain as much tope end as possible.

96 timing is different. 6/6 is best for auto, 13 degree exhaust retard is best for manual. 8 degrees difference isn't really noticable and going more than 16 is very choppy. That is 91-95. You have to adjust for your different centerlines stock. Spark timing isn't going to be as big of a deal as your VE tuning will be.

so for a 96 auto the only option is 6/6? the rest are for manual and 91-95?

and are you saying a 6/12 would be bad? im just wondering cause most of the testing sounds like it has been done on the 91-95 and again more on stick.

i also remember hearing about someone trying to run all exhaust cams... how did that end up turning out? is there something like this that would again work for the 96 auto?
