  • 97 lq1 in a 91 z34?

    hey
instead of rebulding the 91 3.4 i have currently in my car i was thinkng about buying a 96 or newer 3.4l and swapping that in instead.
looking for some info on th newer style of engine. Is the alternator and a/c compressor in a different spot?, the wiring harness would be hard to fab up but relocating the a/c compressor would be a bitch

i want to keep the car obd1 i dont see any real problems with doing that unless someone knows of a complication i would be getting in to

looks like it is you lucky day b/c swapping a newer lq1 into an older car is cake. it is only difficult if u try to put an older engine into a newer car.

it has been a while but the only real difficulty is the egr. i'll elaborate when i have more time.

This post is from 2007. If you are doing the same as the Original Poster then... I would start a new post with your vehicle info and what you are wanting to do you will get more replies..

it should be for the most part a direct swap. you will want to use the 1991 harness/sensors/ecu to make it a OBDI. the 1997 harness and ecu is not compatible with a 1991 trans if you have an auto trans. the motor for the most part is the same, the heads and intake manifold are different. if you want to retain the 1991 intakes you can do that in order to keep your EGR. if you dont care about the EGR then you can block it off and not run it. you will need to run the old EGR to the harness or you will get a code... or disable the EGR code in the ECU (couple guys here i think can help with that). but the engine is basically a direct bolt in, obviously you will need to swap some stuff from the old to the new.
