I've got the UIM, LIM, and TB/Arm from a 1997 Z34. Do I need the heads and cam carriers too, or can I get away with putting what I've got onto my existing heads?

No but you're going to need more than just those three parts to complete the swap.

I ave much more planned. The 96+ isn't in that plan. i just found one, and wanted to swap it in to feel the difference before i did everything else. It involves a custom built bottom-end, all done up professionally, and a hellla built valvetrain, along with ITBs and some other goodies. I'll start a build thread once I get a little further along.
