  • dying problem

Hello all, I have come here for answers that my mechanics cannot find. The problem is that when my car is fully warmed up and I'm creeping along in traffic or going around a corner, sometimes the car just dies. doesn't make a sound, just shuts off mid-turn when I'm applying the brake and going about 3-4 mph. RPMs just keep falling as I apply the brake. Of course this becomes a problem if there are other cars around me, but I always just slide it into neutral and start it back up then shift back into gear. it always starts immediately.

One mechanic thought it was the tranny locking up from not being able to downshift from second to first, so he replaced the torque converter clutch solenoid, but that didn't help.

other ideas I've received are leaky vacuum tubes or bad ISC motor. It's been doing this for nearly a year now, of course getting on my nerves each time. It started about a month after I took it to a shop in town to have them replace the timing belt and.........something else, I forget. An electronic controller of some kind, it was only firing through half of the modules. not sure if either of those could be related. The shop basically ripped me off so I wouldn't be surprised if they sabotaged my car in some way.

    thanks for any help

you need new injectors, its a bulletin from gm, its called phantom stalling, the injectors dont lean out properly at idle, anyways if u get some injectors out of a 96 GTP or monte carlo with a 3.4L DOHC, they will work, its a very common problem with these cars. alot of people have done this and have had great success.

ah, thanks. do they need to be those specific injectors from that year's 3.4? are they different in some way than the ones from '91 that require me to get them instead of direct replacements?

I have some 96 DOHC injectors if you want them. make me an offer. i'll let them go cheep. i have a total of 12! lol my originals and a set from the junk yard. i deff recomend new orings for them. you'll need a total of 12 orings normally two packages. i got them from advance auto for like less then $10.

also when replacing them i used lucas fuel system cleaner to clean out the fuel rail. and since the cleaner if very oily in consistancy it was better then useing reg oil to get the orings on the injectors.

just PM me if your interested in the injectors

you need the 96 ones because they have different internals direct replacements will do the same thing and they are expensive, just buy some used ones off z34phoenix they will work just fine.

a couple hours, you have to take off the upper intake manifold to change them.just be carful with the coolant line that runs into the quick connect on the lower intake if the plasitc piece cracks inside its gonna leak, its not expensive to fix , just a bitch.

I was checking on new injectors (not remanufactured from cores ) and was hunting for prices.

What has some found for prices?

I know that re-manufactured ones are less BUT I'm finding out what prices a person can get new ones for the 3.4 DOHC.

My son's 93 3.4 had this problem and we fixed it with new injectors. Everything said here is good info. One more piece of advice. When you get the new injectors in, pressure test the injector o rings by turning on the key and letting the fuel pump run. Bleed off the air at the schrader valve. Nothing like having a little nick in an o ring and having to do the job twice. Been there, done that.
                        Good luck.
