There is a rev limiter in p/n so thats how its supposed to be. Not sure what is up with the power issue other than it sounds like it could be many different items right now. Have you done a compression check and checked your fuel pressure? Just a starting point really.

It shouldn't start out in 2nd. Are you saying that you have to put the gear selector into 2 to keep it from going into 3rd? Does it lack power all the time? Im not quite sure what is going on.

I have to put the selector in 2 toget it to move. It acts like it wants to move when its in od but it almost feels like a 5spd whith tie cluch going out.

Sounds like a transmission issue then, cause I can't imagine what would cause that from the engine.

after finding two plug wires off, the FIRST thing to do would be a very thorough once or twice over the tranny and engine to make sure there are no sensors disconnected. Been awhile since I fucked with the 4t60-E, but some trannies go into "safe" mode if all the data isnt adding up and will shift strait off of line pressure.

Sounds like a boned tranny. Even in "safe mode" the transmission should move in selector "D," even if it will lock into 2nd gear for all selected ranges. Does the OD light blink at you?

If 1st is slipping, you've very likely got a burnt tranny (1st and 3rd are the ones that go on a 3-spd... I'd have to check and see which sun gear pair are common to this tranny). Fortunately, you should be able to find any number of useable replacements in the junkyard.

There are two slightly less disturbing possibilities. Make ABSOLUTELY SURE that your tranny fluid level is right (start car, idle for about a minute, then with foot on break put the selector in EVERY position for at least 15 seconds each). Check the oil while in Park and running. Low tranny fluid will make the trans slip. Also, it IS possible it's just a plugged valve body. Doubtful, though. If you have enough gunk to plug that mother up, you've got any number of other problems.

Otherwise, hard luck, mate. If you've never changed a tranny yourself, it sucks... But it's doable if you get the right tools. Just follow the directions in the shop manual

I apritiate the comments. When I was under the car there was a wire unpluged onthe passenger side by the tranny i pluged it in but it looked like it would go on either way. I changed the filter and fluid in the tranny.
It still seems the same way but a little bit better but it shudders real bad on accel. Where as befor it just wouldnt go. The car will drive with the selector in every gear with no power except reverse and i dont think it is shifting. Thanks again you all have been alot of help. The only front weel drive tranny i have changed was in a 90 somthing ford mini van but it just droped out the bottem. From what i understand it is a little more difficult with this car.
