After 12 years the alternator finally when bad on my 92 Lumina Z34. This is my question. I completed all steps but I still cant get to the rear bolt in the back of the alternator. The book saids to use a 4 foot extension through the left side wheel. Are there any easier/cheaper ways?

RE: sell the car theres something wrong with it
I'll pass this on from w-body.com: Get a 10mm open end/box wrench. Put the box end on the bolt and get a 3/8 drive extension w/ratchet. Put the square end in the open end of the box wrench and fit the ratchet to it. Crank to the right to break the damn bolt loose then you can squish your hand in there to spin it out if your wrist/hand isn't too big. I had to get my son to do it, his hands are smaller. A real pain in the ass requiring at least a sixpack of beer to finish.
Good luck hope this helps.
Oh and when you put the new one in, leave the damn thing out, really not needed.
