Just for fun, I decided to try to get my 92 Z34 parts car running. I bought it for $200 CAN with a blown timing belt.
I went to the scrap yard and picked up a good t-belt, tensioner, tensioner pulley, idler pullies, and tensioner bracket (was broken) for 20 bucks.
Put it all in and timed the motor. The motor turned over easily enough with my ratchet in the crank pulley. I changed the oil, oil filter, and coolant before starting the engine.
I pushed it out of the garage and tried starting it. Keep in mind this car hadn't ran in over 2 years. It took several tries to start it until I just held it WOT and it fired up. It smoke a bit of blue for the first min, but it went away. When it first started up it was making quite a bit of top end noise. I would assume because the lifters and all had be drained dry for a long time.
Most of the noise has gone away but I still have a tapping/light knocking sound coming from what sounds like the front cam carrier. I took the car out for a drive and it has just as much power as my 93 Z34. The car runs really good, its just this noise thats got me wondering whats up. Maybe slight valve damage from the t-belt break? Loud lifters? Bearings somewhere?
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks
