How do i get this Gear Puller to work?

o.k. so i've got everything on my motor apart and putting in all Timing Belt stuff. I have taken off the pullys and actuator and turned all ( Both Banks ) to Flats Up...I have the Flat Hold Down on...On Both Banks. Now i can't figure out how the Gear holder (Kent-Moore J-38614) The one shaped like a claw goes into the sprocket and actually does anything! I try to put it into the Cam Sprocket and it just doesn't seem to fit. It has square holders and the Gear has rounded slots. It doesn't grab, and hold the sprocket in place so i can break the Bolt in the middle of sprocket...am i missing something?

P.S. i know you guys did not want anymore Timing questions until you got the New Timing Catagory, but this is kind of an Emergency for me. Thanks for any kind of help or input....Paul

i had the same problem when i did mine. i think it went on with a little force cause it wasnt very far off. be very careful cause the cam sprockets arent the strongest and im geussing its a rental tool so you dont want to mess it up. if its yours you might want to grind it down just a little so they fit. im not sure. dont take my word on this cause im not sure what i did to get the tool to work. hopefully, someone else will be of more assistance

When I did mine, I just used a harmonic balancer puller frame and some 5/16x2 1/2 bolts. Just slide the bolt heads into the slots in the gear, place the puller over the bolts, tighten the nuts, and pop that bitch off.
