  • Timing Belt Tool Differences (-96 vs. 96+) ??

I know the pullies changed again for 96-97, what I need to know is if the cam pulley holder designed for 91-95 engines will work on 96-97 pullies? Same ? for the cam flat hold downs? anyone know? maybe someone who has a 96 and a pre 96 or who has done Tbelts on both??

    thanks

I imagine the holder and hold downs would work just fine. I can't see why they wouldn't. I could be wrong though.

its GM. I think theyd change it just to piss on people. I'm hopin it works too cause my tools are for the 91 style and I'm goin to be doin the belt on a 96 soon and I dont want to make more tools for it

I thought that the 91-93 and 94+ had diff. cam gears... At least thats what Ive heard. I dont think you need the pulley holder for the 94+ ones? Ask Ben or Michael about that one.

You need a pulley holder regardless of year (you still need to hold the pulley while you honk on the bolts). You dont need the pulley puller for 94+ though. As far as I know the 94-95 pullies are mostly the same if not the same and what changed was the lockring, so I assume the 91-93 tools will work on 94-95 without a hitch. In 96 the pullies changed significantly, I think they have a different tooth count too (dunno bout that one). I pm'ed ben and he said hes never seen 96 pullies so he cant verify.

I didn't realize you could honk a bolt. Does it hurt?

It can actually be dangerous for the amateur. But for an experience honkey, like myself, its tit.
