  • changing the accesory belt

i recently bought a new accessory belt for my 96 3.4 dohc and went to change it and cant seem to figure out how make the belt tensioner move to take the tension off. im used to the ones where you just clip a breaker bar in and push. i tried putting wrenchs on the idler wheel bolt and tensioner bolt to take the tension off but nothing seems to happen. i dont wanna reeef on it and snap a bolt or strip something out. How do i take the tension off the belt so i can change it
    thanks

Is the tensioner the same from 91 to 96? If so, I believe it's actually 16mm.

if you buy a new one because your old one wears out they are different sizes, both my 91s had a 18mm bolt, but do to plastic pulley failer i had to buy a new one from gm, and now its a 15mm. just put a wrench on it and push down.
