I recently completed the timing belt change on a 95 Cutlass w/ 3.4l. After I was done the car starts and idles fine but when I rev the engine it starts to surge at about 3500 RPM. I tore it back down, rechecked the cam positions and even confirmed TDC by removing the #1 plug. I read somewhere that some of the V6s had a protection feature that may do something similar but it seemed to be after 1996. Can anyone give me some ideas? Will the cam timing being off possibly cause this issue?
Thanks in advance.
Just a side note, I just bought this car, it had 120K miles on it and we could not find out if the belt had been replaced. I do not have enough experience with the car to know if the surge when revving the engine is normal but it sure seems odd.
Thanks in advance.
