  • 1991 Cutty - High Idle When Cold

my 1991 cutlass idles very high when cold, im talking 2500 RPMs, very unnerving to hear an engine race that high right when you start it when its freezing cold out.

i noticed it after having the plugs and wires done, possible the mechanic knocked something loose?, no check engine lights, car runs flawless, just extremely high idle until the car warms all the way up.

at this point there is no start and go, you fight the car at every stop sign or redlight to get it stopped.

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: might be the EGR tube, seems pushed off the male on the top a bit, but its so ratty i cant get it back on snug. did notice the idle jump around a little, could this be it?

Edit 2: wasnt the EGR tube. car still idling CRAZY high

Hight idle is usually one of a couple things...

1: Intake Gasket leak, check for leaks by spraying carb/brake cleaner around the upper and lower intake gasket areas and see if it revs/stumbles, if so then you found your leak (very common). once its warm the metal expands and closes the leak, idle goes back down.
2: IAC issue try cleaning are reinstalling. but i would say #1 is more likely.
