  • Cutlass quit at stop light

I couldn't find anything fitting by searching a bit, so I'll try a new thread with what I know. The car was running just fine- on my way to work. I pulled up to a light and it just quit with no sign of stumbling or problems. I tried rolling it over, but it sounds like it's not getting fuel or spark. I got it towed to my parent's house and confirmed that it has 45 psi of fuel pressure and it has spark. I ohmed out the crank sensor and had the ignition module tested. The spark appeared to be a bit weak to me at the coils when I checked on the side of the road to see if it was sparking. I tried firing it on starting fluid, still with no luck. What else could be the cause of my problems? Wires and plugs are new about 10k ago. I've never had this much of a problem diagnosing a 60*. I actually had to get my winter truck out since I couldn't figure it out over the weekend. Would a bad cam sensor cause it to not fire enough? If so, how can I test it? New ones are like $150, and I don't want to throw parts at it.

Anyone have any ideas? I guess I will do a compression check as well when I get back to the car. I want to pick up any parts and tools needed before the weekend to get it knocked out on friday/saturday.

I'm pretty sure it would run with a bad or missing cam position sensor. I think it would revert to MPFI and throw a code, but, still run...
Speaking of codes,,, are you throwing any??? If so, what codes??
Possibly a blown fuse for the fuel system (injectors)???
You said it happened without warning but, maybe a broken timing belt??
If you have spark I think I'd look at if the injectors are getting power first...
Just a few ideas.... Hopefully somebody else will check in....
      Good luck,,,,
      Tom...
I see it's a 95,,, don't know if you can easily pull the codes... OBD1.5

It had a vaccuum code that had kicked a few days previous from a hose that got knocked loose. But, that's it. Everything else appeared good. Temperature and throttle both read good too.

          Timing belt?

Spark while starting is 100% ICM and all it needs is power and the crank sensor. If you see a spark, even a weak one, its probably working.

If the cam or 24x crank sensor fails the ECM reverts to batch fire.
