  • Turns over, has spark and fuel but won't start....

Won't start. I have fuel pressure spark and the engine cranks. Car is at a shop as I broke down on way to my honeymoon.

    Had spare PCM no change
    Engine cranks over
    Has 40+ psi fuel pressure
Injector test light blinks during cranking
Spark boots will spark to ground so I know it is sparking
    Fuses are good
Timing belt turns and still looks good

The car was running fine. No signs until I started to go from a traffic light. At first the car hesitated like it was the tranny slipping I thought ... Then I noticed it wasn't the trany as toms were falling. And kept falling till the engine died.
only thing I can think is I had gotten 8 gallons of gas to fill my tank about 15-20 min before. Any ideas?

Update... mechanic called me saying he saw some dust in the timing belt and thinks it could have jumped timing... wants to change the timing belt... but said since i put an under drive pulley on it he doesn't have the timing marks to do the belt change.

i asked him to check the crank and cam sensors and get me an estimate for the belt change... he said the engine has compression. im about 2 hours away so i cant look at it... im assuming he pulled the plugs when he did the compression check and would have looked at those too... just doesnt seem like a physical timing issue... more like a spark timing issue to me.

my opinion on it right now... i don't want to spend the money on a timing belt job and find out it still wont start. or risk it being timed wrong and then do damage to the engine. if it isnt something like a sensor i will just have to pay to have it towed. and if it is needing a Timing belt or there is damage inside the engine then i wont have much choice but an engine swap....

Now, I don't own, and never have owned, a DOHC, but I've been around here long enough to know that the marks on the stock gears shouldn't be used. Tell him to use our guide on how to time it.

Yeah i told him on the phone about the arrow on the timing cover and on slot on the dampener. Idk what the cars deal is. I told him to rotate the crank to top dead center pull the cam covers and check the cam flats.

You're assured it has compression. You're assured it has spark.

If it was in MY driveway, I'd pull the rubber intake boot off, spray some aerosol carb cleaner inside, and crank the bitch. Cheap, simple, easy.

If it runs on carb spray, you know there's a fuel issue.

sorry forgot to post back on here. i got the car home and the compression they said it has is almost non existent. 30psi! when cranking i can see vapor pushing out the upper intake manifold! so timing deff jumped. It has 224,000 miles on it. and even if i can get it retimed and get a new belt on it, there is not guaranty that there is no internal damage. add to that my trany wasn't doing so good either... so it is getting swapped to a 3800. l36 with top swap.

so it is a sad day i will miss my LQ1 she ran strong and suffered a quick and painless death. once the swap is complete i will start parting out some of the parts i am saving. the ported TB, and intake set, ported front exhaust manifold, FFP underdrive pulley and dog bone. any request for parts need to be made asap as its going to the shop at the end of the week.
