6 month old battery charges and handles load, alt. when started charges at 14.45 volts till warm up then 13.5. after shutdown of engine with pos. lead disconnected, meter on 10 amp setting drain is 2.7 parasitic for gauge cluster and misc relays. after, drain continues at about 100milliamps about every 5 seconds. pull 1st 60 amp fuse in left hand box draw ends. my schematics do not breakdown where the distribution point is for this circuit. anyone have a print i can get to start tracing the short?

Are you trying to say the draw is 100 milliamps after 5 seconds? What is the 60 amp fuse labeled?

if the draw is 2.75 amps, it drops to 2.74, then 2.73. the 60 amp fuse has NO label. it's the fuse box looking at the left hand wheelwell from the front of the vehicle. the 60 amp fuse is the FIRST one looking into the left hand fuse block, from left to right.

okay Zopi, I'll ask you what I stated in my original post, before idiots compromised it. do you or anyone else have or know where I can get a schematic of the electrical system for my Z. the lousy chiltons one doesn't cut it. legible AND concise.

My recommendation would be to buy a year subscription to www.alldatadiy.com, as it will pay for itself quickly, especially if you do a lot of work on your car. Other than that, I can't provide you with a diagram, as I have never owned one of those cars. I'll see what I can find, but I won't guarantee anything.

Ok, try this. This was gotten off of AutoZone's website. It appears the only 60A fuses are for the cooling fans (2 fans, 2 60A fuses). With that said, I would look at your cooling fan circuits.

Also consider finding a set of Factory Service Manuals for your car. FSMs have every nut bolt, wire, and thingy in your car. This includes wire schematics and even trouble shooting areas.

I found the set for both my GM cars on ebay at less than $100 each. The ones for my Grand Prix are a 3 volume set (about 8" thick stacked!) and I even picked up the supplement for the 3.4 dohc for a few bucks. Well worth what they cost.

AllData is basically the FSMs but in an electronic version. Procedures are word for word identical between the 2. Pros and cons to each obviously...

looks like you have the same schematic I have Zopi. I went ahead and tore into the wiring yesterday. turns out that 60 amp fuse does not feed the cooling fans or it does so in some other fashion not published in the manual. the wires lead to the glove box fuse panel. turns out I have a short in the 15 amp fuse labeled elec. this fuse obviously handles the radio and any accessories. when I pulled it the drain stopped. so thats where i'm at. i'll pull the stereo and disconnect to see if it's the unit or the wires going to the unit. what's convenient is this circuit handles no vital chassis or engine electrical operations. thanks for the assistance without all the drama from earlier responders.

I believe I picked up mine for about $40 shipped or so, but the ones for my 92 was only a 2 book set, not 3 like yours. I bought the 3.4 supplement too, but found out that it was for the 91 year books and was engine mechanical only. This information is in the 92 and later year books automatically.
