  • engine sputters a bit when cold.

Check engine light is on, but not had much luck finding a place that would have a scanner to use. LAst place I found one I guess they got this different one that didn't seem to respond.

Anyways so when the engine is cold, it starts and runs but just sputters a bit like it is missing on one of the plugs. Plugs seem to be OK and once the engine is warmed up it runs just fine.
What I have done - removed and cleaned the IAC and passage, the TB is clean, all fluids seem up to par, plugs seem OK. Recently the fuel pressure regulator was replaced but that was a while back, this problem is fairly new. The EGR was cleaned, but in case it was part of the problem I disconnected the electrical wire but that made no difference in this sputtering.

What stumps me is that this occurs only when the engine is cold. There is no smoke or anything aside the normal steam that you see on cold days like it has been.

This cold sputtering goes away at slightly higher RPM's but at idle it is noticeable.

when its cold and sputters, shut it off and pull the plugs. Might be fouled with watter (head or head gasket) or fuel (fuel injector leakdown).

Well after much digging and stuff, I still don't know exactly what caused it but I did recondition the plug wires and cleaned the PCV, it seemed a little sticky. I don't know how a PCV could cause that much problems but the car is happy now at least.

If the PCV were stuck open, it could act like a vacuum leak. It could have been doing that until the engine warmed up and the goop sticking it open wasn't as sticky when hot. New AC Delco PCVs aren't that expensive at the dealer (~$7 IIRC). I've read replacement ones at the parts store usually have generic springs in them which won't open or close at the right and are inferior to stock OEMs, so I buy mine at the dealer.
