  • Need location/pic request for PCM vent

For awhile now (almost 2 years) I've been fighting a problem with the PCM freaking out in the summertime after an hour or so of driving. Today I was working on the car after running errands and quite by accident found the PCM is getting ridiculously hot when I burned myself on it. I subsequently found the vent to the box that encloses the PCM dangling behind the bumper. I need to know exactly where this clips so it gets the airflow it's supposed to.

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. This is only present on 1996 (OBDII) GP's. 1995 won't have it.

Here's the same thing for another view. This one is from a 96 Z34. That bracket behind the headlight where it mounts isn't present on GP's.

Yeah, something else sounds wrong. Maybe the injectors or something else is out of spec and its creating more heat in the injector drivers or something else in there. Strange for sure.

Thanks guys. It probably is something like that and not the duct. There are L32 injectors in the car (PO put em in) which I've noticed do make the car run at fairly high fuel trims so that's highly possible. But regardless of whether the duct is my problem or not I would still like to get it back in the right spot, especially since I'm going to be getting a 7058 PCM here soon now that I just bought a DHP. I'll also be getting rid of the single pattern L32 injectors. I'm planning on running LY7 injectors if they fit, stockers if they don't.

Yeah if your fuel trims are bad you will have many problems it can only correct a small problem after that it gives up and runs the max trim it was set up to do. Use that dhp get the trims under control.

I plan too, but my problems aren't with the engine; it runs great. It's the transmission. After about 60-90 minutes, it'll just start freaking out and shifting into random gears, kicking the converter clutch on and off, etc.

Don't remember posting that but hey if you shut the car off and start it back up is it okay after that? My 96 pcm used to do that from time to time. With my 97 some times start it up put it in gear and the trans slips really bad and i pull over and kill it and restart it. Freaks the shit out of me but works just like normal after that. Another thing what is your trans temp when its doing that.
