  • timing belt problem 91 lumina z34

Im new to this site but need some sugestions just got a 91 lumina z34 dohc. my sister gave me the car she just had the timing belt fix were it had broke. It was fixed by a well known garage. they told her there was more wrong with it from what i gather maybe a bent/warp valve and she didnt want to sink the money into it. the car starts but acts like its flooding and hard to keep running you have to keep you foot on the gas and when you put it in gear and drive off it has no power. are these engines set up incase the belt does brake the piston and valve dont smack each other, or do you think its just got a bent valve. thanks for any info.

The only time you should be able to bend a valve in a 91-95 DOHC is if the belt went at high RPMs, and even then it can be "iffy" since they were not designed as an interference engine.

Sounds like the shop mest up or the car wouldn't being dieing like that if it bent a valve it would just be running like shit. If it was running fine when the belt went they didn't do a vary good job putting it back together.

Either that shop should revisit their work, or somebody with skills should open it up and correct the engine timing. I have a better than 90% success rate for my entire career. When you consider that encompasses nearly thirty years and over a quarter of a million repairs, that means there were quite a few, how shall I put this, "learning experiences" along the way

I'm not so sure I would want to let them back in. If they can't set the timing right the first time, they don't know a DOHC and shouldn't be messing with it. I bet they went by the paint marks on the timing belt pulleys...
