  • Factory Manual Question

I have a 1995 Monte Carlo Factory Manual that I originally bought for my 1995 Monte Carlo Z34. I see that it also has the 3100 engine in it.
As I have to do the intake/head gaskets on my 1999 MC, can I use the '95 manual for direction, torque specs, etc.?
The '95 Factory Manual shows the 3100 as an "M" engine.
I'm still trying to figure out if my '99 is an M or a J.
    TIA,

the updated torque specs and procedures will make a more reliable engine, though i'm not sure when they came out. i believe they are somewhere on the site, if not i'll post them for you.

i highly doubt you have a J motor, only the n-cars seemed to have gotten them in 1999.

To determine if you have a VIN M or J, just look at the plenum - if it has ribs and a small 3100SFI, then it is VIN M. If it is smooth with the exception of large 3100SFI, then it is VIN J. I agree though, you probably have a VIN M.

        Thanks.
It's got the ribs and the 3100 SFI, so it's an M.
So can I use my '95 Factory Manual which has the 3100 "M" in it, and
then use the updated Torque Specs?
