91 Lumina 3.4, 5 spd bought fall 08 starts running rough 10 days ago take it tothe chev dealer they tell me I need a new computer & mem cal $1000 later they tell me I need new coil packs I said no and bring the car home pull the dip stick and find gas in the oil pull spark plugs check for spark poor thing is running on 2 pistons the other four are totaly fouled black so now i am really looking at this engine and I see that the No. 1 coil is hooked to the passenger side front piston but all the manuals I have looked at say No.1 piston is passenger side rear, call dealer they say passenger side front is No.1 WTF. Which is it and would a bad crankshaft sensor cause the four pistons to miss fire like that

There is gas in your oil because it flooded the engine with gas and wasn't getting spark. FWI change your oil now or the engine is as good as scrap in a few hours.

Passenger side rear is #1.
$1000 for a new computer and memcal is about $900 too much. You can pick up an ECM from a junkyard for prob $30-50, and even a reman from an auto parts store won't be more than $300. Labor charges should be no more than an hour as well.
As far as a bad crank sensor causing a misfire, not likely. If the crank sensor fails, then it usually results in a no-start condition.-Brad-

YOU GOT RAPED!!!
sounds like when the dealership "replaced the LIM gasket" on the monte when my dad still had it, back in like 1997.
they fixed a cut wire for the coilpacks and charged him like $600. i haven't been to a dealership since...
and the coils themselves could be causing your plugs to not be firing on 4 cylinders... now for the interesting question: which cylinders WERE firing?

8 miles home yes I changed the oil right away the part that really surprises me is it started easy no power to go at all, and I pulled the N0. 2 & 4 spark plug wires crossed them and plugged them back in hardly a hic up out of the engine, right now I have the top of the engine off everything looks good, to morrow I'm replacing all the gaskets and get it all back together see what happens
