  • z34 problems NOT RUNNING

Hey guys i have a long one for you im sure there is more than one problem with this car ill give u the info
1991 Lumnia z34 48000 miles rust free has not ran for 7 years
Its my dads car when he parked the car it seemed like a altenator problem car would run fine when just off the charger drive it for a little bit and it would die. Prolly 3 years ago i was messing with it and then the car stopped running i know there is no fuel pressure. Never checked spark didnt know what i was doing i was only 16 What am i going to have to replace on this car so its road worthy i can do everything my self now i just dont know very much about these cars. Any ball park guesses on what it shoud cost to replace belts hoses timing belt stuff like that. we have a 93 explorer with 120k on it with a bad tranny i can either buy the lumina for 500 or explorer for 500 cuz dad wants them gone so any help i can get i guess thanks /

To start with, you could check your basics, like spark and fuel. Since it's been sitting, I'd double check everything again so you know where you stand now. Once all your basics are taken care of, take the alternator to Autozone or whatever and get it tested. If they say its bad, theres one part down. After that I'd check out what's wrong with the fuel, assuming that there isnt any fuel pressure go ahead and check relays and fuses, then check the pump. You may not need a new timing belt quite yet. I think they're reccommended for 60k but they'll go longer I'm sure. Although yours is old.. 16 years or so.. Take off the cover and inspect it. The other belts and hoses wont cost too much, maybe 50-100 dollars total for every hose and belt I'd assume.

good luck on the hoses, autozone has discontinued their kelly-springfield hose for the w bodies. I think the goodyear hoses are still obtainable. Where are you located at?

i located in northeast iowa there is no autozones around but napa my neighbor owns the napa store in town i know he will get goodyear stuff cuz that usually what i run on cars if i can get it i think i going to go ahead and change the timing belt i will have everything all tore up might as well get it done i did scan the car about a year or so ago everything looked fine just no output from the fuel pump should be easy to find out whats wrong with it is there anything else i should worry about its a black car the door seals and back and front windows leak i just dont know if it will be cheaper than putting a tranny in the explorer. the z34 i guess has a bad rear main thats what dad was told i just dont know if i can trust it much. I run Amsoil in all my cars thats expensive stuff to be leaking out how big of a pain will the timing belt be. I put one in a 93 Talon tsi turbo and if its worse than that i not gonna do it

If this car is gonna be a good reliable car ill fix it. i can do the up keep on it i have built race cars and stuff were up keep is high thats no prob im not scared to get my hands dirty. I can put a tranny in the explorer for about 700 bucks do you guys think ill have more in this thing to get it running? And is there any other common problems i will run into with this car there is no rust on it. And its in mint condition it had its problems and dad never really drove it so he parked it in the garage and so it sits still

If you car is an automatic then the alternator is going to be a pain, but you could pull it off and have it checked. Also the "rear main" could be the distributor o-ring, that is a very common place for them to leak oil. Was it parked with gas in the tank? I once saw an old car with a fuel sock that was completely varnished shut because of the gas sitting in it too long. If you have the time then it doesn't cost anything to tear it apart and see what it needs.

yea its an auto and yea it had about quarter tank in it i pulled off the lines and was gonna drain it turned the key and nothing fuel pump does not even turn on i scanned it and got no feedback from the pump so there is something electrical or just bad wrong with it i just dont know if its gonna be worth fixing yet all the brakes are locked up so i get to have the fun task of taking them all apart just to move it. And the wiring has to be looked at every where because we live by a corn field and mice like to chew on things they chewed almost through a plug wire thats all ive seen tho
