I was following the DOHC PROBLEMS thread and suddenly it was locked.
the last post was this by a mod named "Sappy":
"Bosch plus 4s are horrible with the gm igntion system. I don't care if its WW2 technology. Many people have had issues using them on their 60V6. I tried a set of bosch plugs and they didn't last 10k miles (electrode was almost gone by then).
btw, this thread is from 04 so hopefully lyle doesn't need the help anymore"
WTF is going on ? those 4-tip plugs are what GM uses now in all their cars, as "lifetime plugs"- military aircraft use them because they are the most reliable spark plug ever made, for flying long distances 1000's of miles over ocean and mountain ranges- because up there, if a plug fouls, you fall 5 miles to your death- you can't just pull over to the side of the road ! the more electrodes a plug has, the least chance there is to foul one- if one gets fouled there are the other 3 to keep right on sparking- I've tried these plugs and they are the best IMHO
if you're electrode was gone from using them, you had other problems, i.e. lean condition or engine detonation that created excessive heat and burned the electrode off- this was most likely caused by putting a non-stock ECM prom chip and program in, as the most likely culprit- I have run those plugs for years with no problems, and when I remove them after 50,000 miles, they can be put back in and still run more, here's a pic of my last set with 50K on them- and yes, they are out of my 3.4 DOHC engine
if you are burning electrodes off spark plugs, you're doing something else wrong
