  • Intermediate shaft sprocket removal tool?

I'm in the process of tearing down my spare DOHC motor to have it rebuilt. I need to pull the pulley off of the intermediate shaft. It seems that GM has a tool and nobody else in town does (for sale or rent). Any suggestions on how to get it off? There are no screw holes or anything else that a normal puller would use. Does the tool just reach around the back and then push on the intermediate shaft? Thanks!

Tim, you have to use a tool that actual has self-tapping screws, that get screwed into the holes that are not tapped. I have the tool here is a pic

Here's what I did. I took a crank pulley removal tool and dremeled it a bit to fit 7/16" bolts. I then tapped the stock intermediate shaft pulley for 7/16" 20 tpi bolts. The bolts went right in and the pulley came right off. Everything worked out very well. I used 2.5" fine thread 7/16" bolts.

i think i just stuck a screwdriver in the cam gears. it acted as a wedge and then used a 15mm 1/2 inch drive socket wrench.

at one time i also stuck an extension or something as a wedge in the flexplate be4.

and also used another socket wrench on one of the crank pulley bolts to act as a counterwedge at one time as well.

it ran fine for me and it's new owner. cmon, out of all the lq1's on here, how many actually used that tool? if that were the case yours and tim's would be the only running lq1's on here.

Just did one yesterday.. tapped 3 of the holes to 11x1.25 , same size as main cap bolts and used a damper pulley puller. It actually didnt take very much force at all.
