Hello all.
I checked the site and didn't see any reference to this so I'll throw it out for discussion.
My daily driver is a 1992 Z-34 5-Speed. I purchased the vehicle a couple of years ago. At that time, the engine had been "rebuilt" and a new GM clutch installed. I put the term rebuilt in quotes since there are many different definitions for the term. Ben probably remembers exchanging some communication with me in late 2004. - I am from the Warsaw area too. Since owning the vehicle, it has had a noticable vibration at idle. The vibration is such that the manual transaxle sounds like a can of rocks when idling in neutral. After acquiring the vehicle and noticing the vibration, I had the vehicle scanned but all appeared normal. The vibration has been consistent although slightly worse (since putting on 44k miles).
I am fairly confident that the cam timing is slightly off. Although I have done a decent amount of work on the 3.4L, I have never had the heads off of either of the two engines that I own. I am planning to turn up a tdc stop that can be installed in the #1 spark plug position. - Do any of you know whether or not a piston stop would interfere with the valves if used while the existing belt is still installed? I need to perform the belt change anyway but would like to confirm my suspicions before tearing down. I would also like to receive some comments regarding the -6 / +6 cam timing configuration that is mentioned on the site. I drive the vehicle about 100 miles daily so reliability is an issue. Thanks in advance for your help.
